Expectations/Duties

Lead and execute the vision of the children’s ministry for all age ranges.  Candidates MUST have a calling to children's ministry and possess a desire for continued personal growth and development.  The vision of the children’s ministry must align with the overall vision of the church and include community outreach as a core element to that vision.  The Children’s Pastor must be able to hear from God and communicate that to both their team as well as those to whom they minister.  They must be comfortable in a Spirit-filled atmosphere and be able to lead the children in the operations of the Holy Spirit.

Lead a team of volunteers.  Our ministry philosophy is that of TEAM MINISTRY.  The Children’s Pastor will be expected to continually recruit and train people to work in this area of ministry.  Supervising them, coaching them, instructing them, and correcting them is part of the role.  Scheduling them so they can have time to be ministered to in the Sanctuary is vital to their overall spiritual growth.  The Children’s Pastor will schedule, oversee and co-ordinate all three areas of ministry to children for both Sunday and Wednesday.  Regular performance evaluations will be conducted.  When there is a sufficient number of volunteers, they are encouraged to take one Sunday per month to be in the Sunday morning service in order to receive personal ministry themselves.

Training all volunteers and holding them accountable is required along with securing proper background checks for new volunteers and making sure they have all completed the required MinistrySafe videos.

Curriculum.  The Children’s Pastor will have oversight and direct influence as to what curriculum is used.  Present suggestions to Lead Pastor and the decision will be made jointly.  The primary requirement is that the curriculum be effective in teaching our children the Word of God and spiritual principles that will bring substance to their lives.

Special Events.  Special events would include family events, holiday events, parent/child outings, etc.  The Children’s Pastor will create, plan and execute these events effectively with the help of their team.

Summer Events.  Develop/maintain a summer outreach program that allows the children’s ministry to get outside the walls of the church and into the community.  Camps and VBS are two things that are effective along with partnering with our existing outreach ministry.

Administrative Duties.  In the event we are without an Administrative Assistant, the current office staff will be responsible for these duties.  These duties include but are not limited to creating email and text communications, printing, social media posts, video recording and editing, website and app management, image creation, preparing video announcements, and making sure everything required for Sunday is ready and in place.  Computer literacy and knowing how to generate interest via social media is a must along with the ability to learn new software as the need arises.

Communication.  It is vital that good communication happen among all staff, but especially with the Lead Pastor.  Attendance records, salvations, special needs, and any problems need to be communicated with the Lead Pastor on a regular basis.  Texting and email are wonderful methods of communication as well.  Specific training may be suggested or required.

Stewardship.  Financial responsibilities include producing a working budget for monthly expenditures.  Authorization for expenditures outside of the approved budget will require approval according to church policies.  Resources are limited and variable so being fiscally responsible is imperative.  Should a need arise, it needs to be communicated promptly to the Lead Pastor.

Other Duties.  There will always be tasks, assignments and duties required of all staff at various times that fall outside the boundaries of the written job description as with any ministry.  Due to the external demands of ministry that occurs on what is normally considered “off time, “ there is flexibility given to the staff at the Pastor’s discretion or duly appointed office manager’s discretion to provide time off during normal working hours.  Keeping our ministry staff healthy and their families healthy is vital to the overall health of the church.

Additional Information

We believe in the sanctity of marriage.  We believe that marriage is defined in scripture as the union between one man and one woman.  We do not support, encourage, condone or endorse same sex marriage as we believe it goes against scriptural teaching.

We believe to be effective in your specific area of ministry, you need to be called to that area.  We have no interest in just “giving someone a job.”  We are looking for someone whose heart and passion is to minister to children.

We believe in integrity in all areas of your life.  All staff members are expected to tithe, to be responsible with their personal finances, to publicly support the Lead Pastor in all decisions, and to be able to clearly articulate the overall vision of the church.
