Job Description:

This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position based on an average of 40 hours per week with many hours during the summer season, less hours in the fall and spring, and limited hours in the winter. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Mountain Lakes Bible Camp is primarily a summer camp for children and youth. Meals and evening snacks are served family style each day for campers, staff, and guest groups in the dining hall, as well as regular cookouts and packouts. From Labor Day to Memorial Day, Mountain Lakes Bible Camp is primarily a retreat facility with frequent weekend use and occasional midweek groups, including school groups. Many of the year-round meals are served buffet style. The Food Prep Lead is responsible to provide food service for all scheduled groups, activities, and events throughout the year. This includes oversight of anyone wishing to serve in the kitchen for the benefit of camp programs.  Benefits include a salary based on experience and within the context of our non-profit environment, health insurance assistance, year-round camp lodging which includes all utilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Committed Christian with agreement with the Doctrinal Statement of Bible Baptist Church, Klamath Falls, OR.

2. Training, education, and/or experience in food service, culinary arts, and staff supervision.

3. Current training in food safety, or willingness and ability to obtain such training, to meet national and local requirements.

4. Interest in serving in a Christian camp setting. Camp experience is preferred.

5. Personable style and skills in relating to staff, guests, and campers.

6. At least 21 years of age.

7. Acceptance of Food Preparation Lead’s Responsibilities and Mountain Lakes Bible Camp’s Personnel Policies.

8.  Willing to Reside at Mountain Lakes Bible Camp Facility year-round.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. General

     a. Recognize role and responsibilities as part of the overall mission and ministry of Mountain Lakes Bible Camp, Bible Baptist Church, and the ongoing work of Jesus Christ.

     b. Exhibit a spirit of cooperation, flexibility, and commitment to the team relationship with other camp staff.

     c. Create and foster an atmosphere of friendliness and hospitality in the kitchen and dining halls to ensure an enjoyable experience for staff, campers, and guests.

2. Menu

     a. Provide, under the direction of the Hospitality Manager, nutritious, delicious, well-balanced meals and snacks, taking group ages, programming, dietary needs, allergies, and special requests into account.

     b. Always provide options for vegetarians and vegans.

     c. Strive to increase the use of fresh foods, scratch ingredients, locally grown foods, organic foods, and globally and environmentally sensitive food products and supplies.

3. Quality Control

     a. Continually strive to offer better food products and service to camp guests.

     b. Keep regular communication with Hospitality Manager to maintain quality control.

4. Staffing

     a. Assist Hospitality Manager in hiring part-time employees, including recruiting, screening, and interviewing, to be approved by the Camp Pastor.

     b. Provide on the spot training and provide supervision to volunteers to serve in the kitchen in food preparation, food service, and kitchen cleaning.

5. Serve as Head Cook, as scheduled, to maintain average of 40 work hours per week.

6. Standards, Regulations, and Policies

     a. Abide by all state and local health department regulations.

     b. Follow and enforce all camp policies and procedures.

7. Hospitality

     a. Supervise dining room procedures and see that the dining room is attractively maintained.

     b. Maintain a running inventory of food and supplies in the camp kitchen.

     c. Handle the camp kitchen laundry.

8. Equipment

     a. Monitor the proper care and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

     b. Inform the Hospitality Manager of the failure of any kitchen equipment to operate properly or safely.

 9. Participate in an annual review and evaluation with the Hospitality Manager and Camp Pastor.

10. Assist in other areas of camp operation that may arise for the ministry of Mountain Lakes Bible Camp.
