JOB SUMMARY

 

The Vice President of Finance is a key position that significantly impacts Cityteam’s ability to accomplish our mission and continue to provide services and thrive in the future. The VP of Finance is ultimately responsible for the overall financial operations of Cityteam Ministries, including but not limited to, accounting functions, payroll, financial planning, property management, operations, tax and risk management, contract management, and treasury. The VP of Finance will also oversee non-traditional functions such as property development and acquisition, information technology, and facilities.

 

The Vice President of Finance plays a key role in the Executive Leadership Team setting direction and policy. The VP of Finance is the financial liaison with the Board of Trustees and the Finance and Audit Committee, providing guidance and proactive decision support on all strategic financial issues. The VP of Finance works closely with the President and members of the Executive Leadership Team on potential mergers and acquisitions of ministries and potential business ventures in analysis, due diligence, and critical business advice. The VP of Finance will advise the Executive Leadership Team regarding current finance needs, trends, and how they relate to Cityteam's financial policies and procedures.  The VP of Finance will provide fiscal leadership and move current policies and practices into alignment with the ministry’s future goals. 

 

The VP of Finance interacts with all departments and ministries, ensuring good stewardship and protects the financial integrity of Cityteam. This individual needs to be able to work in a fast-paced environment with aggressive deadlines.  It is critical that the VP of Finance has a passion for our ministries and be committed to financial stewardship. The VP of Finance needs to know the intricate ins and outs of nonprofit finance rules and understand how to deal with problems that you can’t just throw money at. Our ideal candidate will be emotionally intelligent, committed to cultivating an environment of trust and openness, and be a mature Christian who can speak truth in love, hold others accountable, and model Christ-like behavior.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Responsible for timely analysis of financial operations, financial strategic planning, and proactive recommendations to the President and the Executive Leadership Team.
  1. Responsible for ensuring all reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate basis including management, and external and regulatory reporting, including federal, state(s), industry accountability, etc.
  2. Responsible for the analysis and preparation of the annual operating budgets and forecasts.
  3. Responsible for maintaining proper internal controls.
  4. Responsible to review and sign contracts appropriate with signatory level.
  5. Responsible for the proper management of all aspects of the cash management program including daily and long-term planning, investments, liquidity requirements, debt requirements and banking/lending relationships.
  6. Establish accounting policies and procedures to ensure that all financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  7. Responsible for overall risk management procedures including analyzing insurance coverage requirements, researching options, negotiating with brokers, and implementing and monitoring compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.
  8. Responsiblefor the management, strategy, and execution of IT infrastructure.
  9. Responsible for corporate legal functions of the ministry.
  10. Assist the President and other members of the Executive Leadership Team on projects as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, or related field
  • Proven experience as VP of Finance or other Senior Finance role
  • At least 10-years of leadership experience supervising and managing staff
  • 7-year minimum managerial accounting and financial management experience
  • Deep knowledge of Finance functions (accounting, budgets, financial planning, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or another CRM 
  • Professional written and spoken communication skills
  • Must have demonstrated people management and interpersonal communication skills, be able to handle conflict resolution, and have a keen desire to serve others
  • Business acumen and comfort with utilizing metrics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel Spreadsheets
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, especially Google Docs
  • Valid CA Driver’s License with a clean record


Preferred Education and Experience

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA
  • Executive management experience
  • Experience presenting to and engaging with small and large groups of people
  • Experience in non-profit industry
  • Experience in a church or religious organization 
  • Familiarity with Cityteam, addiction, and homelessness

Work Conditions

  • This job typically operates in a professional office environment 
  • This role will occasionally travel to remote locations and meet in a variety of venues.
  • Days and hours of work will be typical business hours with occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Must have an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ 
  • Must be active in a local Christian body of believers or at least pursuing community with other Christ-followers
  • Must have compatible theology on major issues of Cityteam's Statement of Faith
  • Must be committed to serving God and the body of Christ
